DIY – Creating a Designer Vision Board

Have you ever wanted to have a place to post your creative ideas but the thought of hanging raw cork board in a colorfully decorated room made you cringe? Well, I decide that I would spruce up the traditional cork wall hanging with a little creativity. Here’s what I did:

1) I purchased some fabric from Paris of course, but I found it at Moods Fabrics in New York, once a fabric haven now heavily trafficked by Project Runway survivrors

2) I purchased a 4 pack of cork board already cut in squares from Target

3) I got a hold of some indoor/outdoor heavy duty mounting tape from Lowe’s Home Improvement Store

4) Assemble : I cut the fabric into the shape of the squares leaving enough room around (about an inch) to fold back the edges into nice hospital corners. I mounted the fabric to the cork using my trusty hot glue gun and then I put the heavy duty tape on the back of the cork all the way around so that it won’t fall down once you hang it up. I put the 4 squares together on the inside of my office closet door so I would have a place to hang ideas as I work on developing a new collection.

I believe doing these sorts of  projects are an important part of being staying creative as a designer. I love to see an idea come together. What sort of DIY projects have you done to keep yourself inspired?
